You will have 25 minutes for your presentation with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Your presentation should be prepared using a presentation software package (Powerpoint, Freelance e.t.c). You can do an all electronic presentation if you wish. The multimedia presentation system in Hodson Hall has an on-line connection and a computer with a CDROM and floppy drive. Your presenation should contain no more than 15 slides without color background (you can use color figures but avoid fancy background schemes)
The presentation should include:
Please hand in: i) an electronic version of your presentation ii) hardcopy printout.
The purpose of the final report is (i) to reinforce your understanding of your project. For example, if you made a device, show how the microfabricated device was constructed, and (ii) to compare the design and fabrication of your device to the "state of art" devices. The report should follow the format of a technical journal article, with the major sections described below (as a way of example).
Introduction: Survey the literature and address the following questions (if applicable).
What are the potential applications for the device?
What are the principles of operation?
How are they made?
Experimental: Describe the process used to fabricate the device, in sufficient detail so that a person knowledgeable in microfabrication could reproduce your work. Include figures flow diagrams for the process.
Results: Use this section to report on the measurements made during the fabrication process, such as the thickness of the different structures and layers as well as characterization of the system.
Discussion: Compare your device to one of the "state of the art" devices you may have uncovered during your literature search. Address factors such as design (size, complexity), fabrication (number of mask levels, processes/materials used), and performance.
Conclusions/Future Work: Your recommendations for improvements in the design and fabrication are welcome.
The report, including figures, should be no longer than 10 typeset pages long.
If the project has resulted in original work that is publishable, the group will discuss with instructor and teaching assistants the details for paper authorship.
