Course Enrollment Policy

The Microfabrication Laboratory course is a popular course and more students want to take it than we can enroll. Laboratory resources and safety reasons do not permit the expansion of the course beyond a point.   Currently, we have the following policy for enrollment in the course.

1. The course is limited to students with senior class standing; on a special occasion we will permit the enrollment of a junior. There is a priority list (first come first served policy) for the first 36 students (9 in each section). Please send an email to ( jhu495 at gmail dot com ) so that you can  get your name on the list. Prof. Andreou assistant  monitors the account and keeps the priority list. The other 12 students (3 in each section) are selected from the remainder pool of students based on other criteria such as balanced participation from departments and or student working in a research laboratory that requires microfabrication work.

2. Graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D. ) must enroll under a separate course number (520.773) and there is a limit of 12 students. Please send an email to ( jhu773 at gmail dot com ) so that you can  get your name on the list. Prof. Andreou assistant  monitors the account and keeps this list as well. The first 8 students are selected from the priority list. The other 4 students are selected from the remainder  of the pool based on other criteria, similar to those for undergraduate students.

When you are making a request, please state your department, the year you are interested in taking the course, and  your status (Junior or Senior) the  semester that you plan to take the course.

Sometime in early Spring, the students that have high priority numbers will be sent an email with a request to confirm their interest in the course. Once the confirmation is received from all students, the final list of students will be made and will be send to the registrar's office. Only students on this list will be allowed to register.

Please also note that there are three sections to this course and we may not be able to satisfy your request for a particular section. In this case, you will be asked to voluntarily move to another section. If we do not have enough volunteers for the undersubscribed sections, there will be a random draw to select the first 12 students in the section and the remainder students will be given the choice of either moving ot another section or dropping the course.
